The homeowner, an experienced gardener herself, wanted a small planting bed redesigned to allow for year-round beauty while maximizing bloom-potential for reliable cut flowers.
Here I worked to create a simple planting planto surround the lovely new deck and patio. We ended up screening the view to the neighboring shed while creating a unique tapestry of plants (many of the homeowners' favorites) in a relatively small space. Homeowners installed the plant material themselves in Fall 2017!
The relatively new homeowners at this remodeled NE Portland bungalow wanted to revamp their whole yard to match their growing family's needs. We created a low-input, xeriscaped front yard, a playful & productive edible garden space along the south-facing side yard; and revamped backyard for outdoor entertaining and romping.
The primary design focus here was to revamp & enliven the entrance to this newer construction home, with some simple modifications in the back yard and a simple, narrow-profile planting along the home's southern side. The front yard was enhanced with a colorful, drought-tolerant mixture of grasses, shrubs, bulbs, and ground covers.
Working hand-in-hand to understand the homeowners' needs for a new, more welcoming face to their home, I helped layout the space for a new covered front porch that will serve as an added outdoor living room in fair weather. A blend of deciduous and evergreen shrubs were blended with hardy perennials to create a dynamic layered effect.
