Services
What do you want from your outdoor spaces? Sometimes the answer to that is clear, but you need to know where to start. Some folks need a little help sleuthing out what's possible. Perhaps you've had a specific issue that's come up, creating an opportunity for change. I believe everyone has their own optimal set point for both the "wild" and the "order" in their lives. I strive to reflect that that balance for each of my clients through their own individual garden design.
I can steer you towards the right solutions, so your yard can be functional while also nuturing your spirit, delighting your senses, and welcoming you home each day. I offer an array of services including design, consultations, and specialty garden care. Read more below or contact me to schedule a consulation.
Landscape Design
A good landscape design will help you envision and plan for your ideal outdoor space and will include:
-
Proposed plantings with plants tailored to your personal style, interests, and site conditions;
-
Hardscaping elements - location and suggested materials for paths, decks, patios, outdoor kitchen spaces, etc.;
-
Existing or planned structures, noting critical elements such as doors, windows, water spigots, utilities, etc.; and
-
A detailed plant list, noting common and scientific names, as well as suggested sizes
Designs often cover the whole property but may span just a portion of your yard (the front, back, or sidewalk planing-strip, for example).
I utilize a blend of modern and traditional approaches, but I primarily work with CAD software (Computer-Aided-Design) to produce a traditional birds-eye (top-down) view of a property as well as to create 3-D depictions of selected specific elements (such as pergolas, privacy screens, more complicated plant groupings, or other vertical elements). Working with CAD means revisions are precise and quick. I often also provide hand-drawn perspective sketches to bring the buildings and plantings to life on paper.
Designing a landscape consists of a number of phases, all of which are aimed at zeroing in on understanding your wants and needs, and what the site will allow. Read more about the stages of the Design Process here.
Garden Consultations
Let's talk! A personalized garden consultation (typically about 2 hours) will let us review your property on-site, identify priorities for your yard, and brainstorm budget-appropriate solutions or improvements. Consultations are a great way to purposely gather ideas, so you can forge ahead with your own DIY improvements or know when to reach out to arborists, contractors or other professionals. After we meet, I will provide you a summary of what we discussed, including specific plant or material recommendations and referrals.
I’m happy to discuss plants (specific suggestions suited to your site conditions, establishment, fertilizing, pruning, renovation, what to keep, what to compost), garden bed & lawn layouts, soil health, water conservation techniques, and hardscapes (decks, patios, outdoor kitchens). As a designer, I like to see functional, beautiful, and lived-in gardens. I believe everyone has their own optimal set point for both the "wild" and the "order" in their lives. I’ll strive to find that balance for you so your yard can be functional while also nurturing your spirit, delighting your senses, and welcoming you home each day.
